From Martial Arts to Action Theatre
Creative Action Training is the culmination of a journey that began in 2008 when Justin M. Krall started training in stage combat and movement theatre during his undergraduate years at Niagara University. It was during this time that Justin discovered the fascinating intersection of martial arts, combat, and storytelling.
After completing his BFA in Theatre Performance, Justin took a bold step and invested a year abroad, studying full-time at the Maling Shaolin Kung Fu Academy in Jiangsu Province. This immersive experience deepened his understanding of movement and martial arts, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.
While Justin's initial focus was on acting, it wasn't long before he shifted his attention specifically to stunt acting, movement performance, teaching stage combat, and creating original works in the unique genre of action theatre. Over the past 15 years, he has had the privilege of offering classes and fight direction for theatre and stunt performances in the world of film, and he can do it on-demand for you.
Significantly, Justin found like-minded allies and co-collaborators who shared his passion for creating original action theatre. Together, they embarked on remarkable projects such as "Living the Dream: A Combat Concert" and, most recently, his MFA thesis production titled "Cycle(s)." Justin proudly defended his thesis on the underutilized genre of action theatre, which he entitled "Meaningful Spectacle."
What began as a solo pursuit over a decade ago has now evolved into Creative Action Training. As friends and colleagues have joined Justin in developing original works, teaching, and creating side by side, they celebrate the beginning of this exciting venture.
At Creative Action Training, Justin and his team bring the culmination of years of experience, dedication, and passion to every project. Their commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance and storytelling is at the heart of everything they do. Join them on this journey of creativity and innovation.
